My art career journey first started many years prior to undertaking more formal art education here at The Learning Connexion. I took classes at Inverlochy Art School, both in painting with Pippa Sanderson, and also in Printmaking with Basia Smolnicki. In 2012 I enrolled at The Learning Connexion and I will complete the Diploma Honours in Creative Arts this year.

One of my strengths is an understanding of colours and how they interact with each other. I particularly admire Matisse and Kandinsky’s way of working with colours and often times my inspiration comes from their works. Taking an idea, I will first set out the images in various drawings before committing the idea to canvas and creating the painting. For me, I feel a painting is complete when I have got it to the point that I just love it!

I am working on developing a painting style that I will like and that will work for me. I have completed a series of painting titled ‘Ladies with Hats’. This series evolved from my love for hats, and is based on black and white trading cards of movie stars from the silent movies era. At present I’m creating a series of abstract paintings of flowers. I will also continue to work on my printmaking skills – using both dry point and screen printing techniques.
